Description

Teaching is a complex profession that requires novices to perform the same tasks as master teachers. Novice teachers are responsible to design, implement, and evaluate instruction for a diverse range of learners for an entire academic year. They interact with colleagues, administrators, parents, and community members. They fundraise, chaperone after school events, and coach teams. The good news is that master teachers often provide the necessary guidance, support, and membership that is so critical to the career survival of their young colleagues.

Collaboration: General and Special Educators Working Together is the first chapter in a larger book entitled Journey of Novice Teachers. The intention of the book is to support novice teachers in putting into place the structures, routines, and processes needed to create an inclusive classroom. The intention of this first chapter is to focus on practical suggestions to enhance the partnerships between novice teachers and their mentors. Over time, additional chapters will be added to guide novice teachers and their mentors in areas of curriculum and instruction.
